We offer you 4 ways to search the files of our photolibrary to find the pictures you require.
1. Clicking Picture Search will bring you to the Polar Search page. Enter a keyword or phrase in the keyword search box, this allows you to search for say polar bears and it will offer you a selection that includes Polar bear pants and polar bear hunting, in the box below the search box, marked exclude pictures with these keywords, if you ask to exclude pants and hunting, you will get just polar bear wildlife pictures. If you are returning and had previously built a lightbox, you will be asked if you wish to return to that light box, or start a new search. Lightboxes you build will be visible down the left hand side of the page.
If you click on a thumbnail, it will bring up a watermarked preview sized picture, below this is a button marked
Show keywords for this picture
Click on this to reveal the keywords used and then tick the boxes to focus your search again within these keywords.
2. Our Galleries are an online catalogue of our pictures, arranged into easy to find categories. Select Arctic, Antarctica or other and drill down to find the subject you require, Arctic Industry or Adelie Penguins in Antarctica. At the very bottom of the Galleries you will find a button that allows you to call up all the images that have the name of the galley, ie, Adelie Penguin, from our scanned files.
3. Our list of keywords is arranged alphabetically and you can search within a letter section, ‘adventure to alert’ Click on the title to open up the words within that section, then click on the keyword of your choice, say aggression, to open up all the pictures that are keyworded aggression.
4. Another way to search is to use our Picture Sets, these are groups of pictures from the same shoot, or photographer, so to view pictures of Alaska, click on AK this offers you six sets of pictures on Alaska, all represented by a thumbnail, Click on the thumbnail to bring up all the selects for that trip. We haven’t categorised these sections because Alaska 00 contains, an oil tanker, Walrus at Round Island, Fish canning at Togiak, The Indian Eskimo Olympic Games and a Brown bear fishing on Admiralty Island. Most sets are similarly diverse, but it offers a fast way to review all the material we have on Alaska.
